In continuation of its fulfillment to athletes, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Sports presented cash awards to medalists at the XXI Commonwealth games in Gold Coast, Australia.. Gold medalists got 5,000 dollars, silver winners smiled home with 3,000 while Bronze medalists were rewarded with 2,000 dollars for their efforts. The brief ceremony was supervised by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung while presentations were made by the former Head of state and FG leader of delegation to the games, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) alongside Nigeria Olympic Committee President, Engineer Habu Gumel. The 45-kilometer long Abuja Light Rail is ready for operation barring minor delay at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Station to be resolved this month, the FCT Administration said yesterday. The Transport Secretary, FCTA, Kayode Opeifa, said that Lot A and Lot 3 of the entire stretch, which terminates at Bazango, is ready for operation. He disclosed that the project, which was ready since December last year, was held up at the Abuja airport, where there was a need for the train station and the terminal to be in place for the train to run. “We are told that will be ready this month and the train terminal of just 20 metres link is ready, and that the president will inaugurate it, “ Opeifa said.
