See How Much Federal Government Gave To Athletes At The Commonwealth Games

In continuation of its fulfillment to athletes, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Sports presented cash awards to medalists at the XXI Commonwealth games in Gold Coast, Australia.. Gold medalists got 5,000 dollars, silver winners smiled home with 3,000 while Bronze medalists were rewarded with 2,000 dollars for their efforts. The brief ceremony was supervised by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung while presentations were made by the former Head of state and FG leader of delegation to the games, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) alongside Nigeria Olympic Committee President, Engineer Habu Gumel. Meanwhile, in his usual fashion, the enigmatic President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Honorable Daniel Igali presented a cash reward of $1,000 dollar each to all gold medalists in addition to the Federal Government cash. National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined President Muhammadu Buhari in London for a meeting. The two leaders met today in London, United Kingdom. It will be recalled that Buhari left for London shortly after declaring his re-election bid on Monday. Justin Welby, archbishop of Canterbury, is among the dignitaries Buhari has hosted at the Abuja House, London, in the last one week. The 45-kilometer long Abuja Light Rail is ready for operation barring minor delay at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Station to be resolved this month, the FCT Administration said yesterday. The Transport Secretary, FCTA, Kayode Opeifa, said that Lot A and Lot 3 of the entire stretch, which terminates at Bazango, is ready for operation. He disclosed that the project, which was ready since December last year, was held up at the Abuja airport, where there was a need for the train station and the terminal to be in place for the train to run. “We are told that will be ready this month and the train terminal of just 20 metres link is ready, and that the president will inaugurate it, “ Opeifa said. He said 12 stations, 21 operational offices, 13 bridges, 50 culverts and nine pedestrian overpasses are all 100 percent completed.
