50 Youths Denounce Cultism In Ogoja

Some cultists at Abakpa in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, on Tuesday denounced their memberships from different cult groups. In a peace and denunciation meeting organised at the Ogboja Play Ground, youths numbering not less than 50 cutting across different cult groups denounced their membership with remorseful and emotional speeches.

Chiefs led cultists from their villages down to Ogboja for the denunciation. Ekajuk community had the highest, 16 with the remaining cutting across other villages in Ogoja.

Clergies, Police officers, traditional rulers, politicians and thousands of people gathered to witness the historic event in triumph.

The “cultists” went through all sorts of cleansing and oath taking. The traditional Oath was administered by the Chief of Ogboja and the Legal Oath was administered by a Lawyer.

The Divisional Police Officer of Ogoja assured the “ex-cultists” of protection and urged them to report any threat on their lives to the police.

Pledges were also made by people present to support the Anti-Cult volunteer vigilante group to help them work effectively.
